Court Dimension

Volleyball is played on an 18-meter by 9-meter court, with a net equally dividing the rectangular area. The net is 2.43 meters in men and 2.24 meters in women in height. An attack line, or the 3-meter line, is marked 3 meters from the centerline on each side of the court, splitting it into a back and front section. The service area is outside the end line, and at least a 3-meter free space about the court should be provided for players to move around. Each team consists of six players positioned with three on the front line and three on the back.
The match is a best-of-five sets format, where a team must win 25 points to win a set (15 points to win the final set), while maintaining a minimum of a two-point lead. Teams rotate clockwise each time they take the serve from the opposing team.
The match is a best-of-five sets format, where a team must win 25 points to win a set (15 points to win the final set), while maintaining a minimum of a two-point lead. Teams rotate clockwise each time they take the serve from the opposing team. A team can touch the ball up to three times before sending it back over the net, and no individual player can hit the ball twice in a row. Faults include foot faulting when stepping on the line while serving, hitting the net, crossing over the centerline, or carrying the ball. The players must serve behind the end line, and they are given only one opportunity per serve. Substitutions are permitted but only in small numbers per set. A point is earned when the ball touches the ground inside the opponent’s court or when the opposing team cannot serve the ball well. Volleyball is a fast and strategic sport.
